Reflection

What strategies were most effective?

The most effective strategies were the ones that help train the range of motion of my muscles when performing a certain technique, enabling me to perfect the way I control them. This also allows me to tackle specific faults one at a time, allowing me to focus on the smaller problems which prevent me from achieving maximum efficiency. After I fixed the direction of my arms, my technique improved significantly, and I was able to direct the ball to my target.

4 new goals and strategies

For future improvements, I would like to:

  1. Continue improving the precision of my control of the ball. I can achieve this by practising on a daily basis and with my cousin, who is relatively skilled at volleyball. I may want to consider consulting a coach or Mr. Hsu for help. Regularly stretching my muscles to improve the range of motion by doing my workout plan from the last unit might also help.

  2. Learn advanced tactics for serving. I can achieve this by reading books or academic papers about kinesiology. Learning about how the human body moves can allow me to apply knowledge to improve my performance. I can also study the movements of professional athletes on Youtube, which would give me some ideas for doing my drills.

  3. Build confidence in my volleyball skills. Having confidence in my ability provides a foundation for improvement. I can do this by regularly practising in order to get better at the sport.

  4. Boost my training through a healthy lifestyle. Eating a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients can help fuel my training sessions. Foods that have moderate amounts of fat and are high in complex and simple carbohydrates are ideal choices to help improve my workout performance.

How well did you perform in this unit?

Overall, I think I did fairly well in this unit. Through research, I learnt more about the interdisciplinary research between physical motion and volleyball techniques, whilst working hard to develop volleyball skills in the few (physical) classes we had. My partner and I accurately passed the ball to each other, and I developed a feasible plan with justified drills for improving specific flaws in my technique. After evaluating my own performance, I have set goals to achieve in my volleyball journey, which I can utilise to practise and improve my technique on a weekly or even daily basis. I think I put an expected amount of effort into my in-class performance; I asked questions when in doubt, although I can still continue to improve upon this.
